Kona Dogs Kokua helps dog owners in distress keep their family together. Here's how it works:
Through local rescues and the Humane Society, we find families who feel they need to give up their dog (or dogs) because of lack of a fenced area, unexpected vet bills, or dog behavioral issues.
If they meet our criteria and their situation can be confirmed by third parties (like the vet, Humane Society or a rescue), our board decides which families we can help with our limited resources. We only pay the provider directly - the money goes directly to the fence contractor, vet or dog trainer.
You can help by donating! All the money donated here goes directly to dogs in need. The more money we have, the more families and dogs we can help. We negotiate discounts with providers wherever possible, and manage each project ourselves and with help from local rescues to save money. We want to keep as many dogs out of the shelter as we can, and try to take some of the pressure off the Humane Society and rescues here in Kona.
